PRINCE GEORGE, Va. — On Saturday a man was struck and killed while crossing service road Route 301, also known as Crater Road, while attempting to locate gasoline.

Two occupants were in a  car traveling Interstate 95, southbound, when the vehicle ran out of gas near the Carson Safety Rest Area.

One man crossed over Crater Road and knocked on the door of a home hoping to get spare gasoline. No one answered and he headed back across Crater Road when he was stuck by an oncoming vehicle. The man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police are waiting to notify next-of-kin before identifying the deceased.
