A storm system will bring colder air and mostly rain to central Virginia this evening into early Tuesday. The atmospheric column will become cold enough for a mix of rain and sleet by 5 AM in the Richmond metro area, with a mix of rain, sleet, and snow after 7 AM. The series of screenshots below show the progression of the changeover in an hour-by-hour fashion.
Surface temperatures will be a little above freezing, so any accumulation will be light, and limited to grassy surfaces. It's possible that a few secondary roads could whiten up briefly Tuesday morning, but temperatures will quickly warm enough to melt any snow and ice. We'll have a few more chances for snow over the next 10 days as several disturbances interact with arctic air in place over the region. -Zach
