NEW YORK — The LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT will debut Tuesday, September 8, the CBS Television Network announced Monday.

“I have nine months to make a show, just like a baby,” Colbert said. “So first, I should find out how you make a baby.”

In April, CBS tapped Colbert to replace David Letterman as LATE SHOW host. After hosting the LATE SHOW for 21 years, Letterman will host his final broadcast on May 20. Colbert and his team are now working on the look and feel of the new LATE SHOW.

“The production office is open, the premiere date is set, and we’re incredibly excited to welcome the creative and comedic genius of Stephen Colbert to CBS late night this fall,” Nina Tassler, Chairman, CBS Entertainment, said.

Colbert’s much-loved and award-winning “The Colbert Report” ended on December 18, 2014.
