RICHMOND, Va. --  A Richmond couple is pleading with the public to help find their pit bull puppies.

The owners, who spoke with CBS 6 exclusively on the condition of anonymity, said they were robbed at gunpoint while trying to sell the animals Wednesday afternoon.

It happened after they posted an advertisement on Craigslist. The owners said the buyers wanted to meet in the 1900 block of Chelsea Street to make the exchange.

When the couple arrived, they were met by two men with guns. When the couple tried to follow them to grab their pups, gunshots were fired despite the fact an 11-month-old was in the back seat of the owner's car.

"I just can't get the guy's face out of my mind," the owner told CBS 6. "I wish I could take it all back, when I didn't let go of the basket he pointed his gun at me and said let go."

One suspect is described as a light-skinned black male with a beard, about 5-foot-8 with a slim build, wearing black jeans, a black shirt, a black coat, a black skull-cap, and he was armed with a revolver.

The second suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, 5-foot-9 and 125 pounds, wearing a white hoodie, black jeans and a black skull-cap.

" I heard dogs running around and a couple minutes later I heard shots fired," said one man who heard the gunfire.

Thomas Gallagher with the Better Business Bureau says this crime is a lesson in safety. When you try to make an exchange via Craigslist, do so in a public area.

"Be sure that you know everything about this transaction as you possibly can," Gallagher said.

One puppy has already been returned and the owners have named him Lucky.

The owners said the father of pups knows something is wrong.
