While it hit the mid 80s this past Tuesday, the coldest air of the season moved in for the weekend. Saturday’s high of 51° at Richmond International Airport was the coolest high temperature since March 26.
Low temperatures Monday morning will drop to or below freezing for central and western Virginia, which will be the coldest since March 27.
Most of central and western Virginia is under a freeze warning until 9 a.m. Monday. There is a slight chance the wind speed may stay up enough overnight to prevent lows from getting to 32° in some places, but the majority of the area will see freezing or near-freezing conditions. Areas well east of I-95 should stay a little above freezing. A freeze warning has not been issued for far western Virginia since those areas have already seen a full freeze this season.
Highs will rebound into the 60s on Monday and the 70s Tuesday & Wednesday. It will turn colder towards the end of the week, and near-freezing lows will be possible again Saturday morning.
