High school student, Caroline County teen arrested in shooting

BOWLING GREEN, Va. -- A Caroline High School student and a 19-year-old man were arrested and charged in connection to a Thursday afternoon shooting in the town of Bowling Green. A 20-year-old Ruther Glen man was injured in the shooting which happened at about 4:45 p.m.

Investigators spotted the shooting suspect's vehicle an hour later in the Lake Landor subdivision. After a foot chase, deputies took several people into custody.

On Friday morning, investigators charged the Caroline High School student with Malicious Wounding by a Mob. The student was being held in a juvenile detention facility.

"The arrest of the juvenile in this incident did not occur at the high school," Caroline County Sheriff Tony Lippa said in a written statement. "The Caroline Sheriff's Office and Caroline County school officials took proactive measures to ensure security at our schools this morning by providing additional deputies and investigators at the middle school and the high school, along with additional school personnel and heightened security procedures."

Caroline Public Schools notified parents via social media Friday morning.

"We are still working closely with the Caroline County Sheriff’s Department to ensure that we have a safe and secure learning environment at all of our schools," the school system posted on Facebook. "We will continue to closely monitor the situation. Counselors and clergy are available to provide support for students who need it."

Jaymonie Wallace, 19, of Ruther Glen, turned himself in to police Friday afternoon. He was wanted for attempted first-degree murder and other charges in connection to Thursday's shooting.

Investigators have not yet discussed a motive in this shooting.
