HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- A 19-year-old North Carolina man was charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by felon after a shooting Thursday on Rudolph Road in Henrico County.
Matthew O. Sykes, of Grandy, North Carolina, was arrested after police responded to the 2700 block of Rudolph Road at about 12:18 p.m. Thursday and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. That man was taken to VCU Medical Center and treated for a non-life threatening injury.
Police have not yet said what exactly happened in the moments that lead up to the shooting.
"All of a sudden like 20 police cars rolled up and I looked down the street and the police said something about a drive-by shooting,” neighbor Jessica Gregory said. "It’s very bizarre. It's a safe street and nice neighborhood."
