POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. — Larry A. Lafoon, 19, of Powhatan County was killed Tuesday night when his pick-up truck ran off Route 13 (Old Buckingham Road) and hit a tree, according to Virginia State Police Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick. Police said Lafoon was not wearing a seat belt and that speed was considered a factor in the crash.

The crash happened at about 9:46 p.m. on Route 13 just west of Route 632 (Evans Road) in Powhatan. State Police closed that stretch of Route 13 for several hours Tuesday night.

News of Lafoon’s death spread among his friends and former classmates via social media.

“Waking up to finding out Larry has passed is heartbreaking. My heart and prayers go out to the Lafoon family,” tweeted Madison Lander.

“I’m sure if there is a mud hole in heaven Larry Lafoon is buried up to the floor board in it, rest easy bud,” tweeted Hunter Langston.

Lafoon’s Facebook page indicated he attended Powhatan High School.
