HAMPTON, Va. – Police arrested an 84-year-old Hampton man for the murder of his 65-year-old neighbor.

David Junior Priddy is charged one count of murder and one count of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to a report on WTKR.com.

Priddy shot and killed Katherine Ann Fleming  on July 10 while Fleming stood on her driveway outside her Shawen Drive home, according to police. Priddy also lived on Shawen Drive.

Fleming’s daughter said the two had been neighbors for about 30 years.

“I just don’t understand it,” Katherine’s former husband Sam Fleming told WTKR.com.  “I never thought something like that would happen to her.”

Sam Fleming said his ex-wife was often threatened at work.

“Every day she would come home and tell me about those death threats, and I would say ‘quit your damn job and let’s just move somewhere,” he recalled. “She wouldn’t do it. She loved her job too much.”

Hampton Police said investigators do not believe Katherine’s murder was a random act of violence, but have not yet released details about what may have lead to the shooting.
