PETALUMA, Calif. - He has lived a hard life, but he is getting a lot of love now. A North Carolina dog, with a tough background, was crowned the World's Ugliest Dog at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in California on Friday.
Peanut is a shelter rescue dog who was abused by his previous owner and burned in a fire.
"He doesn't' have lips anymore, his eyelids are also gone, so he can't close his eyes, so his eyes water, the tears drain into his nose and make snot bubbles, that adds to his character," Peanut's mom Holly Chandler said. "He's my baby, I guess I don't see him every day as being that ugly, but I guess the judges thought so."
Peanut won his owner a four-foot trophy and $1,500.
