VIDEO: Man injured after terrifying ride on out-of-control elevator

PROVIDENCIA, Chile – A man was seriously injured in Chile when the elevator he was in malfunctioned and rose 30 floors in 15 seconds, according a report on TVNZ.com.

Video posted on YouTube on Friday showed the 31-year-old man enter the elevator and press a button to go up. But it appears before the man even presses the button, the elevator doors close and the elevator begins to rapidly ascend.

As shown in the surveillance video, the elevator ascends more than 30 floors in 15 seconds, according to BiobioChile.

Sensing something was wrong, the man presses more buttons in an apparent effort to control the elevator. Seven seconds into the video, the elevators doors open, but the elevator does not stop.

About 18 seconds into the video, it appears the elevator crashes into the roof of the building as the camera loses its picture.

The man reportedly suffered head and leg injuries.

The building was finished just eight months ago, according to Infonews. The elevator was in the Tower B building of the complex.
