RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Two men were arrested after a Monday morning shooting in the 1500 block of East Cary St. near Richmond’s Shockoe Slip and Shockoe Bottom neighborhoods.

“As officers pulled up, they heard gunshots and saw a man shooting a firearm,” Richmond Police spokeswoman Dionne Waugh wrote in an email. “With the assistance of other officers, they quickly took him into custody as well as detained other individuals.” No one was injured in the shooting, according to Richmond Police.

The gunshots were fired during a fight in a parking lot between a nightclub and a restaurant. That fight involved as many as 30 people, police said.

Melvin L. Jones, 29, of Flat Field Terrace, is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, reckless handling of a firearm and resisting arrest.
