HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Police are reminding pet owners to make sure their animals are up to date on rabies vaccinations after a rabid skunk was found in a Henrico backyard.
“On Monday, April 21, 2014, Henrico Police Animal Protection received a call for service for a dog playing with a deceased skunk in the citizen’s backyard. This incident occurred in the 7600 Block of Dowdy Drive, not far from Yahley Mill Road and Darbytown Road,” Henrico Police spokeswoman Lt. Linda Toney said. “The remains of the skunk were retrieved and submitted to the State Lab for testing.”
The remains tested positive for rabies and the exposed dog will be quarantined.
