RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Tonight's VCU Rams NCAA basketball game will NOT air on WTVR CBS 6.
CBS used to show local teams in their home cities or at least home regions, so whenever VCU or Richmond made the tournament, the games were on network TV.
That changed when CBS partnered with TBS, TBT and truTV to broadcast every game in the tournament, live on TV.
While CBS does get some say in which games it airs, the network is likely thinking about attractive match-ups for a national audience, not necessarily a local audience. Therefore the VCU game, while of HIGH interest in Richmond, was not chosen to be part of the network's national broadcast.
You can watch the Rams take on Stephen F. Austin State University tonight at 7:27 p.m. on truTV.
The University of Virginia also plays Friday night. The Cavaliers play at 9:25 p.m. on TBS.
Here are the games scheduled to air Friday on CBS 6:
12:15 — (3) Duke vs. (14) Mercer
2:45 — (6) UMass vs. (11) Tennessee
7:10 — (1) Wichita State vs. (16) Cal Poly
9:40 — (8) Kentucky vs. (9) Kansas State
