PETERSBURG, Va. (WTVR) – A Petersburg man charged with murdering an Army veteran last summer was found guilty Thursday.
Jurors convicted Marvin Massenburg Jr., 27, on a second-degree murder charge, along with felony use of a firearm, maliciously firing into an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm after having been convicted of a felony.
Officials said Marcellous Land, 28, died last August after he was shot while driving on Washington Street and his pickup truck slammed into the Broadway Inn.
Massenburg was arrested after police received tips from the community and located his car, which was spotted in surveillance video obtained by CBS 6.
The video showed, from two angles, the white pickup truck driven by Land, just seconds before he crashed into the motel.
Behind that truck, the video shows a silver-colored vehicle with large rims tailing Land’s truck.
Massenburg is scheduled to be sentenced later this year.
