PETERSBURG, Va. (WTVR) -- Henrico, Chesterfield and Petersburg students will no longer have off from school on President's Day, February 17.

"The February 17 student holiday/staff planning and development day is being eliminated. Instead, February 17 now will be a regular school day and regular work day for students and staff," Henrico Schools said in an email statement. "The change follows more than six days of lost instructional time resulting from recent weather-related closings or delays. All other scheduled half-days or holidays, along with Spring Break, are not affected by this change."

Earlier this week Chesterfield Schools announced similar changes to its calendar.

Chesterfield school leaders announced Wednesday that a scheduled holiday (Feb. 17) and two early-release days (Feb. 26 and March 26) will now be regular school days for students.

“Missing so much class time disrupted our students’ education,” Superintendent Marcus Newsome said in a news release. “To keep students on pace with our curriculum, we must make up some of that missed time.”

In Petersburg, snow created even more school calendar changes.

"It may be a little difficult for some parents, great consideration was taken, when deciding what days to use, as these snow make up days," Petersburg Public Schools  spokesperson Nicole Bell said. "But I would ask parents, the inconvenience is worth the education of you child, we want to get that instructional time back."

The call to use part of spring break, other holidays and teacher work days was a join decision between the Petersburg City Public School and the superintendent.

Again this is PETERSBURG ONLY:

  • February 17 (President’s Day) will be a snow make-up day
  • April 14, 15 will be snow make-up days
  • May 26 (Memorial Day) will be a snow make-up day
  • June 16, 17 will be early release days, as well as, snow make-up days.
  • Spring Break will now be April 16 through April 21
