(CNN) — Parts of Alabama’s Maxwell Air Force Base were evacuated Friday after a suspicious package found at a base post office tested positive for explosives, base officials said.
The package was found during a routine inspection, and base security officials were alerted at about 10 a.m., a post on the base’s official Facebook page said.
Testing indicated the presence of explosives, base spokesman John Coyle said.
Some buildings near the site were evacuated, and people in other buildings were asked to stay indoors, the Facebook post said.
A bomb disposal unit from the city of Montgomery, where the base is located, was called to help inspect the package, according to the Facebook post.
