RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Several malls in Central Virginia plan to open on Thanksgiving in an effort to attract holiday shopping dollars before Black Friday – the traditional start of the Christmas shopping season.

Virginia Center Commons in Glen Allen will open 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving.

“Everyone can come walk off those Thanksgiving calories and begin crossing names off their holiday lists as well as getting some great deals for themselves,” mall officials said in a statement. “Macy’s, JCPenney and additional retailers will kick off their holiday shopping hours at 8 p.m., while other store hours will vary.”

Chesterfield Towne Center will also open for shopping on Thanksgiving night at 8 p.m.

“Chesterfield Towne Center will be the only Mall in the area heavily and officially promoting Midnight Madness as standard mall operational hours,” mall officials wrote on its website. “The Mall’s main entrance doors will open at Thanksgiving night at 8 p.m. Over one hundred retailers are anticipated to be open offering some of their most aggressive deals and incentives of the year during Midnight Madness.”

Both Regency Squarein Henrico and Southpark Mall in Colonial Heights plan to open at 8 p.m. on Thanksgiving as well.
