HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – The man investigators said brandished a gun during a Monday morning fight in Mechanicsville’s Pebble Creek subdivision is being held in jail pending a Tuesday morning hearing.

Michael T. Newton, 46, of Henrico, is charged with assault and battery and brandishing a firearm. He was also charged with reckless driving after he drove past a school bus as students were climbing on board, Hanover County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Chris Whitley said.

“Deputies responded to the 6300 block of Greystone Creek Road for a report of an assault in progress involving a gun,” Whitley wrote about the 7:30 a.m. incident. “Within minutes, deputies arrived on the scene and determined that Newton had already fled in a vehicle. Several minutes later, Newton was located and taken into custody without further incident.”

Both Newton and the victim suffered minor injuries, Whitley said. He would not discuss the circumstances that led up to the fight.
