Unemployment rate increases in Virginia

Posted

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) - Virginia's unemployment rate went up to 5.5 percent last month.

According to the Associated Press, the rate increased from 5.3 percent in May but is down from 6 percent a year ago.

The Labor Department reports that the national unemployment rate has remained at 7.6 percent, even though employers added 195,000 jobs.

The unemployment rate increased partly because more people started looking for work, but not all of them found jobs.
