Cut-a-thon to benefit Maymont victim’s family

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Salon Magnolia Spa will open Sunday, July 14 from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. to help raise money for the family of a child killed at Maymont park last month. Julie Monroe is a manager at the spa and helped organize the fundraiser for the Shawn Wills Memorial Fund. She said her neighbor, who is friends with the Wills family, gave her the idea.

Wills was killed in June when a tree fell on him as a severe storm blew through the park. The child’s father was injured in the same incident.

The salon is normally closed on Sunday. During the cut-a-thon, customers can donate to the memorial fund. Monroe said the money will help the family cover day-to-day expenses as the father recovers from his injuries.

The spa is located at 2208 John Rolfe Parkway in Henrico’s Far West End.
