RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) -- An arrest has been made after “Toots” Hibbert was injured during a Toots & the Maytals concert at Dominion Riverrock festival Saturday night on Brown's Island in downtown Richmond.
William C. Lewis,19, of Henrico was charged with aggravated assault after Hibbet was hit by a bottle thrown on to the stage, Richmond Police said.
Hopeton Hibbert, Toot's son and bass player in the band, told CBS 6 reporter Jake Burns his father was released from the hospital and on the way to New York. He said Hibbert ended up with 8 to 10 stitches on his head after he was hit by a vodka bottle.
The above video from a CBS 6 viewer shows the scene immediately after the incident.
Sports Backers later confirmed that around 10:20 p.m. a member of Toots and the Maytals was struck and injured by an object thrown from the crowd.
As a result, the concert was canceled and spectators were told to leave Brown’s Island.
Fans posted messages of support for Hibbert on the band's Facebook page.
"Hey Toots we're all so sorry about the jerk who threw a bottle at you head last night," wrote Terry Peters. "I hope you are ok."
"...please don't extend that imbecile's behavior to that of all people in Richmond. Thank you so much for coming out and playing at River Rock!" wrote Emily Adams.
