MATTHEWS COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) — Deputies say a house fire in Matthews County Tuesday afternoon turned up over $1 million worth of marijuana plants.

According to the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office, fire crews were dispatched to a fire at a two-story frame home on Buckley Hall Road just after 1 p.m.

When firefighters discovered marijuana plants on the home’s second floor, sheriff’s office personnel started investigating.

Deputies said 48-year-old Kenneth M. Putt of Cobbs Creek was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Manufacturing.

Officials said the estimated value of the marijuana was over $1,000,056.
