TRAFFIC ALERT: Water rescue near Richmond bridge

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – A morning river rescue slowed traffic along the Mayo Bridge (14th Street Bridge) in Richmond on Thursday morning.

Richmond Fire spokesman Robbie Hagaman said crews rescued a kayaker who was fishing in the river and flipped into the water.

The man clung to a rock for 45 minutes before he was saved and taken to the hospital for treatment.
