HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) - The Red Cross is helping one adult and a child burned out of their eastern Henrico apartment. Henrico Fire spokesman Capt. Jim Mellon said the small fire at the Oakland Village Apartments damaged two units around 12:55 a.m.
Capt. Mellon said the fire started in an upstairs bedroom and was contained to that area. But the destruction was so severe the two living inside are not allowed back inside at this time.
"Once we got on scene, got enough crews to be able to make entry, we got upstairs there was a fire in the bedroom which we were able to knock down fairly quickly," Mellon said.
Everyone escaped the fire unharmed, Mellon said. Fire investigators are still working to determine what started the fire.
