HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Police released a mug shot of murder suspect Jamon Burroughs one week after his arrest. Burroughs, 19, is charged with First Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony.

The teenager is accused of shooting and killing Farooq Bhimdi on Jan. 28, 2013, during a robbery attempt inside the Expressway Convenience Store on Mechanicsville Turnpike.

Bhimdi owned the store and was working behind the counter that night.

Police said a security system Bhimdi installed in his store helped detectives identify the suspect and make an arrest.

Immediately following his first appearance in court, Burroughs’ mother said her son was not guilty.

“From the time they say he did it, he was at home all day.  He never went anywhere I was off that day Monday,” she said. “I never saw him go out of the house.”

Burroughs is set to appear in court again on February 13.
