(CNN) — Rashida Jones took to Twitter on Tuesday to apologize for remarks she made about John Travolta earlier this month.
“Made a thoughtless comment about John Travolta. I sincerely apologize. Nobody’s personal life is my business,” she wrote.
While promoting her new movie “Celeste and Jesse Forever,” Jones suggested that more celebrities should be open about their sexuality, like Frank Ocean.
“A movie star. Like John Travolta? Come out! Come on. How many masseurs have to come forward? Let’s do this,” she jokingly told music website Spinning Platters.
Travolta had been accused of sexual assault in a lawsuit by a male cruise ship attendant. An earlier sexual battery lawsuit had been abandoned by other accusers.
Jason LeRoy, whose byline appears on the interview with Jones that published August 10, told ABCNews.com: “It was a bold thing to say, but it was coming from a good place. It was within the context of a conversation about how empowering it was when Frank Ocean came out.”
The conversation began when “Celeste and Jesse Forever” actor and co-screenwriter Will McCormack, who was also being interviewed, suggested, “There needs to be, like, a professional athlete that comes out.”
