VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WTVR) – A Virginia Beach man is charged with Reckless Handling of a Firearm, a Class One Misdemeanor, after police said he accidentally shot his 3-year-old neighbor. The child suffered a non-life threatening injury, according to police.
Police said the child and her father were sitting in their first floor apartment last night around 11:00 p.m., when a bullet hit the child’s arm. One minute after the father called 911 for help, the suspect called 911 to report he’d accidentally fired his weapon.
Matthew Bairney, 24, lives in an apartment above the victim.
He was released on bond.
Police said their investigation into the shooting was on-going.
