FARMVILLE, Va. (WTVR) – An officer has shot and killed a man after a police chase in Farmville Tuesday evening.
Police sources told CBS 6 News' Lorenzo Hall that the suspect, 45-year-old William Wingfield Jr., showed up to a woman's home who had a protective order against him.
Investigators confirm the suspect was under a protector order that prevented him from possessing a firearm, because of a domestic situation a few weeks earlier.
Farmville police stopped the suspect 's truck in the 1900 block of West Third Street. Police said the suspect sped away and fired a shot at an officer.
That's when a police chase started and continued into Prince Edward County where the suspect stopped on Forestview Road near Back Hampden Sydney Road.
Then, police said the suspect, armed with a handgun, got out of his truck and sots were exchanged between a Farmville officer and the suspect.
Officials said Wingfield was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said no officers or civilians were injured during the chased.
Virginia State Police are investigating the shooting. The officer who fired the shots has been being placed on administrative leave as is procedure.
