RICHMOND, Va (WTVR) – A construction crane fell on top of a power-line last night causing major delays on Interstate 95 north and southbound. For a portion of time all lanes were closed in both directions.
In the early morning hours one lane was reopened in each direction at mile marker 78. Traffic was stopped for 15 minute intervals throughout the night to allow utility crews to repair the damaged power line. All lanes have been reopened and traffic is moving smoothly right now.
However, construction is scheduled to resume tonight at 8pm tonight. Expect one lane to be open at mile marker 78, the Boulevard. Crews will be on scene through 6am Thursday morning.
To avoid the area during peak hours use I-295 to bypass downtown Richmond.
Local traffic should use Route 1 or the Downtown Expressway (toll)/I-195.
