RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting last week near a Richmond middle school.

Officials said 19-year-old Thomas L. Gilmore, of the 500 block of North 19th Street, was arrested around 2 p.m. Tuesday by the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Gilmore was charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection with this crime.

An RPD spokesperson said the shooting happened after two men began arguing on the Martin Luther King Bridge around 2 p.m. last Thursday.  [RELATED: Some parents worried after shooting near Richmond middle school]

According to police, one of the men, who was with a woman, pulled out a gun and shot the other.

The victim headed for Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School. That’s where CBS 6 News’ Sandra Jones said the shooting victim approached a bus driver, who called police.

As a result, the school was placed on lockdown, according to Richmond Public Schools’ Felicia Cosby. The lockdown was lifted around 3:30 p.m.

Police said the victim suffered life-threatening injuries.
