HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Best Buy, a store known for selling TVs, computers and appliances, announced Saturday it would close its store on S. Laburnum Ave. in eastern Henrico County.
In a press statement, the company said that location, in the Shops at White Oak Village, was one of 50 stores around the country that would close as “as part of its transformation strategy.”
The statement indicated the Laburnum Ave. Best Buy would close by May 12.
The store, which is closed today, will reopen Sunday, April 15 for final sales, according to the statement.
“This was not an easy decision to make. We chose this store carefully, and are working to ensure the impact to our employees will be as minimal as possible,” the company wrote in the statement. “Employees of the East Richmond store have been notified this morning of the decision. We will be working to help these employees find other positions inside Best Buy. If they don’t find new positions, or if they choose not to work at a different location, a transition including severance packages will be available.”
Best Buy said the company’s seven additional Richmond-area locations (six big boxes and one standalone Best Buy Mobile stores) will remain open for business.
