HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – Byrd Middle principal Sharon Pope has won a 2012 R.E.B. Award for Distinguished Educational Leadership, according to a press release from Henrico County.

“I know the high caliber of leaders who have earned this recognition, and to be considered in that league is truly an honor,” Pope said in a statement.

According to the press release, R.E.B. Awards for Distinguished Leadership are given to principals who “go beyond the day-to-day demands of their position to create an exceptional educational environment.”

Each year four principals are recognized, one from each metro-Richmond school district. Winning principals receive a $7,500 cash grant and an additional $7,500 for school projects.

Dr. Jodie Brinkman, the principal at Echo Lake Elementary, was the 2012 runner-up in Henrico County.
