HENRICO COUNTY, Va (WTVR)- West Enders packed an auditorium at a Henrico’s Crestview Elementary School Thursday night, not to discuss education but a store, Walmart.
The retail giant is trying, again, to build a store near the corner of Forest Avenue and Glenside Drive in the West End. That’s the spot where Walmart tried unsuccessfully to build a store several years ago.
This time the proposal is smaller, envisioning a store of less than 90-thousand square feet. But people living near the site think it will be too close to their homes. The prospect of a large store worries Jeffry Burden, who helped organize the community gathering. “The nature of the big box retailer is kind of a mass retail situation, with lots of traffic, lots of heavy volume,” said Burden. “[They’ll have] a wide range of products offered, something that really doesn’t fit easily into a specific area that’s mostly residential.”
We’ll keep you posted as plans develop.
