VCU, other top seeds advance in CAA Tournament

RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR)- If you were expecting an upset during this year's CAA tournament, you left the Richmond Coliseum Saturday night disappointed.

Drexel, VCU, George Mason and ODU, the top four seeds in this year's tournament all advanced to set-up two great semifinals games Sunday.

VCU advanced the semifinal round with a 75-65 win over Northeastern in front of a sellout crowd at the Richmond Coliseum.  Rob Branderburg led the Rams with 19 points as VCU's bench outscored the Huskies bench 46-4. The Rams also forced 25 turnovers.

VCU's win sets up a third meeting this year with George Mason.

The Patriots escaped with a 61-59 win over Georgia State on Byron Allen game-winning lay-up.

Drexel will play Sunday after a 59-47 win over UNC-Wilmington.

Chris Fouch led four players in double figures with 14 points.

They will face ODU in the conference semifinals Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.

The Monarchs got 24 points from the CAA Defensive Player of the Year Kent Bazemore in a 88-74 win over Delaware.
