What You’ll Need:
½ cup butter or margarine
1 cup sugar
16oz. chocolate syrup (we used Hershey’s)
4 eggs
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a jelly roll pan with a nonstick cooking spray.
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in syrup, vanilla and blend in eggs one at a time. Add baking powder and flour gradually; mix until smooth.
Pour evenly into pan and bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Cake will look like it has fallen. Test with toothpick to see if done.
When cool, using a 2 1/2 to 3 inch heart shaped cookie cutter cut 12 hearts or cut cake in squares.
Fudge Sauce:
1 cup sugar
¼ stick margarine
1 cup milk
4 Tablespoons cocoa
2 Tablespoon flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
Mix fudge sauce ingredients in saucepan and stir until it comes to a boil .
Place Chocolate Syrup Cake on serving plate, top with ice cream if desired along with fudge sauce, whipped cream and a cherry or candy heart on top for Valentine’s Day dessert.
Extra Fudge Sauce can be refrigerated and reheated.
