Tractor-trailer accident closes lanes in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WTVR) – A tractor-trailer accident in Chesterfield County caused major delays.

Police and emergency responders were called to the scene, on Interstate 95 north at mile marker 64. This is south of Willis Road and just north of 288

The left lanes both south and north bound remained closed throughout evening.

State police said that the four vehicle crash occured when the driver of the tractor-trailer, traveling northbound in the left lane, attempted to change lanes and struck a 2009 Chevrolet Impala.

The Impala was traveling in the center lane.  The tractor-trailer driver lost control and ran off the left side of the roadway and struck the jersey wall.

Debris from the jersey wall struck two vehicles that were traveling southbound on I-95.

The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to VCU Medical Center.  T

The other three drivers involved were not injured in the crash or from the debris.  Everyone was wearing their safety belts, said Sgt. Thomas Molnar.

The tractor-trailer driver, Sharon S. Simmons, 55, of Chesterfield, was charged with making an unsafe lane change.
