CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA (WTVR) - A man accused of violently shaking an 11-month-old girl pleaded guilty to the crime Monday morning in a Chesterfield County courtroom.
Dennis Aguilar, 27, was sentenced to 20 years in prison with 10 years suspended. Aguilar was charged with aggravated malicious wounding. Prosecutors said Aguilar, who is from El Salvador, would likely be deported following his prison term.
Police said Aguilar, who lived at the home with the child, shook his girlfriend's 11-month-old daughter in April of 2011 because the child would not stop crying. The child was in his care at the time.
During a hearing in August, the child’s mother took the stand and said Aguilar called her frantically at work to say her little girl had fallen.
The child spent two months in the hospital recovering from her injuries.
