RICHMOND, Va. -- VCU senior De'Riante Jenkins has stepped away from the Rams basketball team, according to a statement released by VCU Head Coach Mike Rhoades.

"He is dealing with a personal health matter, so we ask that you respect his privacy and that of his family," the statement read. "I love and support De'Riante and look forward to him being back once he is ready."

Jenkins averages 10.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, two assists, and 26.8 minutes per game, the second most on the team in all four categories.

The Rams (17-11) play George Washington University Saturday afternoon. There are two games next week before the Rams play the A10 Tournament.

Coach Rhoades cited privacy laws for the reason why VCU would not release additional information about Jenkins at this time.
