RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond Raceway is planning to host fans in the stands when NASCAR returns to town in April.

Governor Ralph Northam announced Tuesday an easing of some COVID-19 safety restrictions.

That includes an increase in the number of people allowed at outdoor sporting events from 250 to up to 1,000 (depending on venue size).

If COVID trends continue in a positive direction, another increase could happen before race weekend April 17-18.

“Thanks to Governor Ralph Northam and his administration for their diligent work and collaboration to share a pathway for Richmond Raceway to welcome fans back for our upcoming spring NASCAR weekend," Richmond Raceway President Dennis Bickmeir said. "We will work hard to provide a safe race experience for every fan who enters our facility. We will also continue to support our community as a mass vaccination site as we make progress towards a post-pandemic life in the greater Richmond region and across the globe.”

Richmond Raceway will celebrate its 75th anniversary over the Toyota Spring Race Weekend in April.
