RICHMOND, Va. -- Councilwoman Kimberly Gray (2nd District) will run for Richmond mayor, multiple sources confirm to CBS 6.

Gray’s candidacy sets up a battle against incumbent Mayor Levar Stoney in November. Stoney previously said he would run for reelection in 2020.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch’s first reported the news Tuesday morning.

Gray, a Richmond native, is serving her first term on Richmond City Council after being elected in 2016. She was previously on the Richmond City School Board from 2009 to 2016.

The general election is November 3, 2020.
