BUXTON, N.C. - The National Park Service said a 16-year-old was injured from a shark bite on Thursday evening.
The teen was from Oak Ridge, North Carolina and reportedly received a non-life threatening injury from a shark off Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
The incident occurred around 4 p.m.
Dare County Dispatch notified Seashore Law Enforcement Rangers that a 16-year-old male was being treated at a medical facility in Nags Head for an apparent shark bite injury sustained in the ocean near Ramp 25, The National Park Service said.
The off-road vehicle ramp is located roughly 2.5 miles south of the village of Salvo.
A Seashore Law Enforcement Ranger drove to the medical facility and interviewed the family of the injured teen.
The family said the incident happened about 25 feet offshore while the 16-year-old was jumping over waves on a sandbar.
The teen was treated for his injury and released from the medical facility last evening, The National Park Service said.
