A division of the Department of Defense that is responsible for securing White House communications, social security numbers and other sensitive government information experienced a data breach in 2019, Reuters reports.

According to Reuters, the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) sent letters to those whose personal information may have been compromised.

According to the letter, the agency experienced a data breach between May and June of 2019. The letter added that there is no evidence that any data was misused but added that it was required to notify anyone whose information may have been taken.

A DISA spokesperson confirmed the breach in a statement to TechCrunch.

“DISA has conducted a thorough investigation of this incident and taken appropriate measures to secure the network,” the statement read, according to Tech Crunch.

According to its website, DISA is made up of 8,000 military and civilian employees. Describing itself as a "combat support agency," DISA supports national leaders, the military and its allies in information-sharing capabilities.
