RICHMOND,Va.-- The Greater Richmond YMCA is suspending both before and after-school child care this upcoming week in response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Families will not be charged during that week.

"We realize this puts a difficult burden on the thousands that depend on and trust us to care for your children. It is in that spirit that we must take this step to ensure that we are doing everything possible to ensure their safety and well being," the YMCA said in a statement.

All youth sports, aquatics, and the adventure guide program events will be postponed until April 18.

"We are monitoring the situation closely and following the Virginia Department of Health and the Governor’s office who has shared that the current risk of infection here remains low," said the YMCA in a statement.

The YMCA said it had no plans to close any of their facilities, but would keep the public updated if that changes.
