Pilot killed in northern Virginia plane crash

WARREN COUNTY, Va. – A man is dead after crashing his plane in northern Virginia Sunday afternoon.

Virginia State Police say the crash occurred at 1:37 p.m. in the 400 block of Stokes Airport Road in Warren County.

Police say a preliminary investigation revealed that a glider aircraft was attempting to land or take off, before colliding with several trees.

The pilot, identified as 65-year-old Peter C. Maynard, of Berryville, Va., was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one on the ground was injured as a result of the crash.

The FAA and NTSB have been notified of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
