RICHMOND, Va. -- A violent start to the new year in RVA: at about 8 p.m. New Year’s day, shots were fired in Richmond’s Museum District leading to property damage, and just hours earlier, in the West End of Henrico, a New Year’s after-party led to an loud argument.

It was raining in Richmond Friday night.

"We heard six or seven shots,” said a man who didn’t want his name made public. “I passed it off as fireworks but a couple minutes went by and a resident knocked on our door to say the front doorway had been hit."

That witness said he would soon learn the front door and wall to his apartment wasn't the only thing hit.

"Police were arriving and asked if I knew the owner of a specific vehicle and it was mine,” he said. “It had a bullet hole through the front windshield ."

Crime Insider sources said a car pulled up behind a man on a skateboard on Patterson Avenue and opened fire.

Sources say the skateboarder was grazed by a bullet but not seriously injured.

Earlier and further west off Emerywood Parkway, there was a squabble after a New Year’s party between known participants and a shooting was called in at the Embassy Suites hotel.

CI sources say no shots were fired, but confirm that Raekwon Williams made threats of violence, and say after a search warrant was executed, several weapons and drugs were confiscated.
