Investigation into woman's shooting leads police swarming Richmond neighborhood

RICHMOND, Va. — Police say a woman was shot in Richmond's Gilpin Court neighborhood on Sunday evening, prompting a heavy police presence in the area.

Officers were called to the 1300 block of St. John Street around 5:45 p.m. for a report of a shooting, according to officials with Richmond Police.

When officers arrived, they found a woman with an apparent gunshot wound. She was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation led officers to the 00 block of West Charity Street, where police say the shooting occurred.

Video from the scene showed officers swarming the neighborhood and approaching an apartment.

No additional information was made available, including details on a potential suspect or whether officers made any arrests.
