RICHMOND, Va. — Police say a woman was shot in Richmond's Gilpin Court neighborhood on Sunday evening, prompting a heavy police presence in the area.

Officers were called to the 1300 block of St. John Street around 5:45 p.m. for a report of a shooting, according to officials with Richmond Police.

When officers arrived, they found a woman with an apparent gunshot wound. She was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
