RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond welcomed visitors from across the globe Sunday as the Pan African Cultural Arts Foundation hosted Kidzafest at Maymont Park, bringing together local children and students from South Africa for a free celebration of African culture and the arts.
The event was part of a two-week cultural collaboration between artists in Africa and the United States, with South African youth performers traveling to Virginia for workshops, classes, and events centered around African arts.
An organizer described the mission of the festival.
"It is an event that brings the community together to celebrate African fine and performing arts. What we do is we bring in youth performers from Africa and over a period of two weeks we collaborate, we do workshops, we do events, we do classes centered around African arts," the organizer said.
Kidzafest featured folklore music, dance, and storytelling aimed at creating love and mutual appreciation for cultures from around the world. The day also included food, art displays, and workshops. Admission was free.
