RICHMOND, Va. — The City of Richmond announced a new emergency alert system after the January water crisis. Now that more water issues have popped up, CBS 6 anchor Bill Fitzgerald demonstrates how to sign up for alerts in case of emergencies.

Richmond Ready Alerts will notify city residents about things like severe weather, fires, floods, missing people and power outages.

Residents can receive these alerts through text, emails, landline phones, or through the Everbridge app.

You can opt-in to receiving Richmond Ready Alerts by texting RVAREADY to 888-777 or by visiting the city's website here.
