CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. -- A holiday adoption event is now underway at Richmond Animal League in Chesterfield County.
The 10th annual Operation Silent Night began Friday as officials look to clear the shelter in time for Christmas.
The RAL is offering reduced adoption fees of $10 for adult dogs, cats, and kittens thanks to local sponsors and donors. They are also looking for foster homes during this time.
“A pet adopted from anywhere is a win for pets everywhere,” says Kaicee Robertson, RAL’s Director of Development. “We want to encourage people to adopt a pet from ANY shelter. Central Virginia has so many amazing shelters and organizations working to save lives. If you don’t find a pet who is right for your family at RAL, please consider looking at other animal shelters.”
The adoption event runs through December 22 and will culminate on December 23 with a virtual Luminary Ceremony where officials will light candles and listen to -- what they hope -- is an empty shelter.
Traditional and Keepsake Luminaries may be purchased for a minimum of $20 on the RAL website.
Once the shelter is clear, the RAL will be able to fill back up for adoptions at the start of the new year.
